What is the gastric balloon?
The Allurion gastric balloon is an innovative technology offering a non-invasive alternative to bariatric surgery for overweight or obese people.
Unlike surgical procedures such as gastric bypass or sleeve gastrectomy, the intragastric balloon (or IGB) is introduced into the stomach simply by ingesting a capsule, eliminating the risks and complications associated with surgery and anesthesia.

A Specialist in Digestive and Obesity Surgery, Dr. Selim Khelifi has received comprehensive and diverse training. Since 2015, he has been practicing bariatric surgery after training under Professor Jean-Marie Zimmerman in Marseille. He holds a diploma in laparoscopic surgery, an academic qualification in visceral surgery, and a university diploma in obesity surgery from Strasbourg under the guidance of Professor Marescaux. His expertise also includes revisional (REDO) surgery, gained in the department of Professor Bruno Dillemans in Bruges. He further enhanced his skills in colorectal, hiatal, and abdominal wall surgery through a placement with Professor Henri Monnier, and in laparoscopic surgery at Georges Pompidou Hospital under Professor Jean-Marc Chevalier. An active member of SOFFCOMM, Dr. Khelifi expanded his knowledge in advanced laparoscopic surgery at the University of Kremlin-Bicêtre in 2018–2019, strengthening his mastery of modern surgical techniques.
